The Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) is the trade association for more than 75 companies in the UK producing prescription medicines. Its member companies research, develop, manufacture and supply more than 80 per cent of the medicines prescribed through the National Health Service (NHS).

The ABPI also represents companies engaged in the research and/or development of medicines for human use. In addition, its general affiliate membership is for all other organisations with an interest in the pharmaceutical industry.

We seek to create economic growth, increase employment opportunities, and expand the skills base.

Chemical Industries Association

The CIA is the UK’s leading trade association for the chemical and chemistry-using industries, representing members both nationally and internationally.

We work primarily for the benefit of our members. We embrace a strong philosophy of advocacy, authority and action and focus our priorities on addressing the issues that relate directly to our members, their businesses and the chemical industry.

This enables us to be single-minded in supporting our members’ interests - and deliver a significant competitive advantage.

Defra

Defra (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) is a UK Government Department.

The overarching challenge for Defra is to enable everyone to live within our environmental means. This is most clearly exemplified by the need to:

  • tackle climate change internationally and through domestic action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and
  • secure a healthy, resilient, productive and diverse natural environment.

Central to achieving these goals will be reducing the environmental impact of the lifestyles we lead, the products that the country’s economy produces and consumes, and the waste we produce. We also need to reduce the global impact of our food production and consumption, improving the contribution that a profitable and competitive farming industry in this country can make to our environment.

These challenges can only be met by a respected department, making it vital that we focus on delivering to the needs of our many customers efficiently and effectively. Defra will do this while maintaining high levels of protection of human, animal, and plant health and ensuring the economy is resilient to risks such as those from flooding, disruption to food or water supply and the consequences of a chemical, biological or nuclear incident.  Defra is also responsible for enabling adaptation to the inevitable impacts of climate change.

It is a not-for-profit organisation, guided by a Board of Directors who are elected by the membership and is based at its Head Office in Bourne End, Buckinghamshire, UK.

Members are engaged in all aspects of work in clinical research, both directly and in the support services.

Food and Drink Federation

The Food and Drink Federation is the voice of the UK food and drink industry, the largest manufacturing sector in the country.

FDF's membership comprises manufacturers of all sizes as well as trade associations and groups dealing with specific sectors of the industry.

We help our members operate in an appropriately regulated marketplace to maximise their competitiveness. We communicate our industry's values and concerns to Government, regulators, consumers and the media. We also work in partnership with key players in the food chain to ensure our food is safe and that consumers can have trust in it.

A successful food and drink sector is a vital component of a healthy UK economy. For instance: our industry directly employs 500,000 people, and as many as 1.2 million in ancillary services; it accounts for 15% of the UK's total manufacturing sector by value; and it is an invaluable partner to British agriculture buying two-thirds of what farmers produce.
