South-West & South Wales Microbiology Forum - 24th September 2009
University of Exeter.
The Microbiology Forum is an umbrella body for scientists from the South-West and South Wales area who have common research interests in microbiology and related disciplines. Through regular meetings, the Forum fosters collaborative research within the South-West, and creates a dynamic research environment for graduate students and postdoctoral scientists. This year's meeting, sponsored by BioApproaches SW, brings together microbiologists and immunologists from the Universities of Bath, Bristol, Cardiff, Exeter, Plymouth, Swansea and the West of England, together with scientists from the Health Protection Agency and the Defence Science & Technology Laboratory. Through a combination of invited speakers and poster presentations, the meeting will showcase the latest research in the fields of mechanisms of virulence
(of bacterial and fungal pathogens) and the host response to infection. In addition, a Special Lecture will review the current prospects for obtaining biofuels from microorganisms.

PIPMG Autumn Meeting - 24 - 25th November 2009
Our autumn meeting is designed to stimulate discussion on key aspects of Translational Medicine as our medicines progress from molecules to the market place. This PIPMG meeting will seek to answer questions such as

- What is the impact and value of Translational Medicine to drug development?

CDE Open for Innovation, at Cardiff University, 17th September 2009
The Centre for Defence Enterprise (CDE), in partnership with the Welsh Assembly Government and Cardiff University, is delighted to be able to present a special one-day seminar on science and technology research in defence, how to get involved and funding opportunities.
CDE is the Ministry of Defence’s gateway for science and technology ideas from industry, academia and innovators to ensure UK Armed Forces have access to the best equipment, science and technology, now and in the future.
CDE provides a quick response to ideas with a range of advice, assistance and research funding. A programme of monthly technology seminars helps to explain the complex requirements and specific challenges of the UK’s Armed Forces.

Opportunity South East Asia!
Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand represent a potential trading zone of almost 94 million people with a mix of mature and developing health economies that have similar medical healthcare interests, targeting the growing medical tourism market. Their membership of the ASEAN trading community means that significant business is carried out between all three countries.
The UKTI mission will visit each market for two days starting in Singapore, moving onto Malaysia and ending in Thailand to coincide with Medical Fair in Thailand in Bangkok previously known as HOSPIMedica.
