Sustainable Chemistry Developments at the University of Bath
The University of Bath has recently launched their Centre for Sustainable Chemical Technologies which is a joint initiative between the Departments of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at the University.
The Centre brings together researchers with expertise across a wide spectrum of applied chemical sciences and establishes the infrastructure for interdisciplinary collaborative research with a common theme of sustainability. We place fundamental concepts of sustainability at the core of research and training in applied chemical sciences.
The Centre is starting its work in 2008 with eight projects, spanning areas of sustainable energy production by photovoltaics and from bio-resources, to novel materials from renewable resources. Specific areas of research interest include:
- Production of materials and chemicals from renewable feedstocks
- Renewable energy production and storage
- Optimisation of chemical processes to minimize waste and energy use
- Reduction of Life-Cycle impacts of materials and processes
For more information contact Professor Matthew Davidson (Director of CSCT).
GM crops – follow the debate…
