Many thanks for your continued support in completing our surveys. Your opinions are much appreciated and help us focus our service provision to address your needs. If as a result of the surveys you need more follow up support please do not hesitate to contact us - we are very much here to help you catalyse your business towards greater performance.
The latest survey carried out by BioApproaches SW reviewing Gross Value Added (GVA) and Turnover status for our companies allowed us to review the performance of the South West bio-industry over the last two years 2004/2005 and 2005/2006 respectively. In brief:
- From the questionnaires, there is evidence of employment growth of around 7.2% - Using national estimates, Gross Value Added (GVA) has increased by around 4.3% - A growth in turnover of around 16.2% driven primarily by changes in agriculture and related services (increase of 37.8%), Manufacture of pharmaceuticals, medicinal chemicals and botanicals (increase of 34.8%) and Research and experimental development on natural sciences and engineering (increase of 24.9%)
These trends describe improvements in the performance of this South West sector as a whole and describe a positive drive amidst the challenging financial climate.
Kind Regards,
Dr Gugs Lushai, Network Director

South West Innovation Relay Centre (SWIRC) – Building Technology Partnerships
The role of the South West Innovation Relay Centre (SWIRC) is to bring companies, universities and research institutes together so that they can profit from each other’s research, technology and expertise.
SWIRC is a part of the pan European Innovation Relay Centre technology partnering network (IRC) spanning over 33 countries and 300 offices with 1000 professionals working in the interests of European organisations.
The IRC network working in close conjunction with BioApproaches SW provides South West biotechnology companies with an excellent opportunity to reach potential partners for technology collaboration and exploitation by accessing new markets and generating new revenue streams.
The European network has a dedicated group committed to assisting organisations in the biotechnology sectors of health, food and environment. The group represents biotechnology companies across the whole network and is tasked with helping companies find partners to enter new markets and to pool resources for the development of new products.
SWIRC working along side BioApproaches SW can also actively promote your technologies, helping you source new technologies and solutions, organise European missions and support technology partnering events.
We have a technology search facility and are excited to announce that BioApproaches SW will soon be installing this through its website improving the service on offer to its members. The two organisations (SWIRC and BioApproaches SW) provide a very powerful suite of business support services reaching from the South West through Europe to the international market.
Should you have technologies you wish to promote or conversely need a solution to a problem then we are here to support you.
