An Ambassador representing these senior world-class institutes arrives in the middle of February on a focused tour hosted by BioApproaches SW. A note below signifies the R&D budgets of the Universities and State that support the Biomaterials Centre and associated research.
All universities are keen to promote KTP linkages with the UK.
New Jersey's Science & Technology University - $77M
Princeton - $148M
Rutgers - $259M
University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey - $305M
New Jersey Appropriates $270M to Build Biomedical and Stem Cell Research Facilities
Last month, New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine signed a bill that will contribute $270 million to the construction of five biotechnology research facilities across the state. Gov. Corzine believes the state is a strategic moment to accumulate "a critical mass of scientists, researchers, doctors and physical facilities" ahead of the next presidential administration, which will dictate future federal spending on stem cell research.
The proposal includes:
$150 million to build and equip a stem cell research institute at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, which will be named for the late actor, New Jersey native, and stem cell research, advocate Christopher Reeve;
$50 million for a biomedical research facility in downtown Camden;
$50 million for an adult stem cell research facility in Newark at the New Jersey Institute of Technology;
$10 million for the Garden State Cancer Centre in Bellville; and,
$10 million for an umbilical cord blood collection program in Allendale.
In addition to this investment, $10 million has been allocated from the state budget to award stem cell research projects this fiscal year. The New Jersey Commission on Science and Technology will distribute these funds, with $7 million directed to 2-3 embryonic stem cell research facilities not supported by federal funding and the other $3 million to be spent on general stem cell research awards of up to $300,000.
If you would like to be included in these business development missions please contact Jade for fuller information.

EDITORIAL
By David Acton G & H Associates Limited - FP7 Programme
In December 2006, the European Union launched a funding programme, worth over €50 billion, for research and technological development.
The EU is committed to innovation as a means to give its member states a technological competitive edge in world markets.
As part of this commitment, a series of Framework Programmes has been implemented, over the last 25 years, to provide funding for companies and organisations involved in research and technological development. The most recent, Framework Programme 7 (FP7) was launched on 22nd December 2006 and will run until 2013.
Funding support will be provided to international co-operation projects across the European Union and beyond. Any company, university, research centre, organisation or individual may participate within a project consortium, no matter how large or small. The progress of knowledge and technology will be supported in 10 thematic areas corresponding to major fields in science and research as follows:
• Health
• Food, agriculture and biotechnology
• Information and communication technologies
• Nanosciences, Nanotechnologies, Materials and new Production Technologies
• Energy
• Environment (including Climate Change)
• Transport (including Aeronautics)
• Socio-economic sciences and the humanities
• Space
• Security
The funding is provided as a grant contribution to the project budget, with intervention rates of between 50% and 75% of the total eligible costs of research and technological development activities.
The level of funding is entirely dependent on the project and can range, typically, between a few hundred thousand to millions of Euros, depending upon the scope and nature of the development.
The first call for proposals closes in the middle of April 2007 so, if you have a project that is:
• Innovative
• State of the art
• In need of financial support
you should act now.
G&H Associates has long experience in the field of fund acquisition, from a wide range of sources, and is working with BioApproaches SW to provide its members with advice and expertise in funding for their research and technological development projects through FP7 and the wealth of other funding schemes available.
We are experts in evaluating projects, identifying the best route to acquire the much needed funds and ensuring a successful bid submission, be it to the EU, DTI or other body such as a Regional Development Authority.
For a confidential discussion about your idea or project, contact David Acton at G&H Associates or visit our web site for more information.
