The revised model Clinical Trial Agreement (mCTA) was launched on 30 October 2006. The agreement has been developed to speed up the contracting process for industry sponsored trials in NHS hospitals and has been agreed by the ABPI, the BIA, the NHS, the UK Health Departments and the Council of Heads of Medical Schools.

The launch of this agreement has been done in conjunction with the UK Clinical Research Collaboration (UKCRC) of which the BIA and the aforementioned organisations are Partners and are represented on the Board. The UKCRC was established in 2004 to address the issues regarding the conduct of clinical research highlighted in two key reports from the Bioscience Innovation and Growth Team and the Academy of Medical Sciences. The agreements for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland together with guidance notes as well as the UKCRC Board’s statement of support are all available on the UKCRC website

It can also affect employees' health and trigger absenteeism, which damages retention rates, the employer's reputation and the bottom line. Anti-bullying charity, The Andrea Adams Trust, helps to persuade employers to combat bullying in the workplace. For more information please click HERE

“Bugs are the new Black”

Bugs or more precisely, the beneficial application of compost containing bugs to suppress plant diseases is the composter’s equivalent of the little black dress!

Plant diseases can cost a grower thousands of pounds in lost or damaged stock and the gardener, whether amateur or professional, can suffer significant loss of plants and reputation.

The compost producer and user can now benefit from state-of-the-art antibody-based testing kits that will test for the presence of beneficial organisms such as Trichoderma spp.

Based on research carried out over the past 10 years, University of Exeter-based Eco Diagnostics Ltd, in collaboration with EcoSci, has developed the SoilSense testing kit that works within minutes to provide a guarantee to compost operators and/or compost users that their product or growing media contain these beneficial organisms.

Moreover, the testing kit can be used to test the results of a program of simple manipulation of compost feedstock materials to provide the right microbial consortium within the mix.  Composts can be customised to perform particular functions/effects and thus to the creation of composts with added value.

SoilSense, available from Eco Diagnostics Ltd, is the essential accessory for the wardrobe of any compost producer keen to maximise revenues and add value to their compost product.
