The BAE Systems Advanced Technology Centre (ATC) at Filton offers a comprehensive capability in MEMS development – Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems.
The capability runs from concept through to detailed design, prototyping, fabrication and evaluation. The team has developed numerous world-leading MEMS devices and has experience in transferring prototype technology through to large scale manufacture.
Micro and Nano Technology (MNT) working with MEMS offers new methods of manufacture for sensors, actuators and displays. These are much more efficient and cost effective than conventionally engineered devices. A key strength of BAE systems is that in-house application teams are formed between application engineers and MEMS fabrication experts – each understands each others’ discipline – optimised project teams are formed that can work with customers (universities and industry) to give the best technological solution and value to any need identified.
The possibilities of collaboration across all sectors include:
• Design and development of devices based on fluid flow – whether liquid or gas
• Micro-fluidic’s and immunoassay to produce a range of biologically important devices
• Thin film imaging – specific sensing applications
• Bio-sensors / micro-PCR / SPR / Opto-electronics
• Bio-mimetics
• Specialist optics
• Biological, chemical and electromagnetic functionality
