South-West & South Wales Microbiology Forum - 24th September 2009
University of Exeter.
The Microbiology Forum is an umbrella body for scientists from the South-West and South Wales area who have common research interests in microbiology and related disciplines. Through regular meetings, the Forum fosters collaborative research within the South-West, and creates a dynamic research environment for graduate students and postdoctoral scientists. This year's meeting, sponsored by BioApproaches SW, brings together microbiologists and immunologists from the Universities of Bath, Bristol, Cardiff, Exeter, Plymouth, Swansea and the West of England, together with scientists from the Health Protection Agency and the Defence Science & Technology Laboratory. Through a combination of invited speakers and poster presentations, the meeting will showcase the latest research in the fields of mechanisms of virulence (of bacterial and fungal pathogens) and the host response to infection. In addition, a Special Lecture will review the current prospects for obtaining biofuels from microorganisms.
